Cultivating Leadership, Growing Africa
I joined the PLO Lumumba Foundation on the 27th of May 2017 when Prof. Lumumba visited Liberia.
The Foundation has impacted my leadership development in the following ways:
- helps improve my understanding on Pan-Africanism and imperialism
- has given me the opportunity to work with my team in helping farmers increase their vegetables production in Gbeyilata in Bong County.
These are the activities that I participated in:
- The PLO African Mentorship program of 2020
- The Pan-African Dignity Farm project 2021
- The Pan-African Quiz Competition of 2020

From Desperation to Dedication: Edwin Nnpakumeno’s Journey to Pan-Africanism
In 2014, at just 16, Edwin Nnpakumeno left Edo State, Nigeria, chasing the dream of a better future in Europe. After months of struggle in Libya, he attempted the perilous sea crossing in 2015, crammed onto a flimsy boat with 109 others. Their journey ended in terror when Libyan soldiers intercepted them, opening fire after their captain refused to be towed back. Three migrants died, including the captain, who, in his final breaths, expressed love for those he led. This moment transformed Edwin—he realized the deep need for African unity and solidarity.
Rescued near Italy, Edwin pursued education, later earning a degree in Political Science and International Relations. In 2021, inspired by Professor PLO Lumumba’s Pan-Africanist ideals, he returned to Africa, interning at the PLO Lumumba Foundation. Immersed in the works of Kwame Nkrumah, he deepened his commitment to African unity.
Today, Edwin is a passionate activist, using his voice to champion Pan-Africanism and inspire a new generation. His journey, marked by hardship and resilience, stands as a powerful testament to the enduring dream of a united Africa.

From Coordinator to Changemaker in Tanzania
Since 2017, my role as Country Coordinator for The PLO Foundation Tanzania Chapter has been transformative. The Foundation has shaped my leadership through mentorship, inspiration, and networking. Interactions with Professor Lumumba have provided invaluable insights into Pan-Africanism, leadership, and community development.
Key mentorship sessions with Professor Lumumba in Kenya led to valuable connections and inspired me to author six books on leadership and mentorship, including a conversation with him.
The PLO Lumumba Foundation has fueled my Pan-Africanism advocacy, leading me to engage audiences across Tanzania, promoting unity and empowerment.
Being named a 2023 Top 100 Changemaker in Tanzania reflects the Foundation’s support. I’m grateful for the growth and committed to a united, empowered Africa.

The PLO Foundation: Shaping a Leader in Zambia
Since joining the PLO Lumumba Foundation in 2018, my leadership passion and skills have been realigned through interactions with fellow young Africans. The Foundation has provided invaluable networking opportunities on issues affecting African development. As Zambia Chapter Coordinator, I’ve faced challenges, but my leadership is now recognized and trusted in Zambia.
As a mentee, I attended the first PLO AMP Conference in Nairobi (2019), connecting with mentees from across Africa. In Zambia, I’ve organized provincial mentee gatherings for inter-chapter quizzes and sent youth to the continental PAQ competition. I’ve also served on continental committees and represented the Foundation in the media.
